"Shikiri / see beyond colors" was exhibited in the exhibition "Time Space Existence" for the Venice Architecture Biennale 2014. It re-focused on the importance of Emmanuelle's design concept of "shikiri", by extracting and representing its essence. 6 models of various scales were hung from the ceiling, each expressing the essence of "shikiri". The ARAKAWA GRIP fixtures allowed these models to hang precisely, keeping the horizontals by having adjustments at the fixture. Also, it was important to have a beautiful design that would not disrupt the flow of the color gradation. ARAKAWA GRIP fixtures stood quietly as if it were a part of the work.

Emmanuelle Moureaux

French architect, artist and designer living in Tokyo since 1996. Inspired by the layers and colors of Tokyo that built a complex depth and density on the street, and the traditional spatial elements like sliding screens, she has created the concept of "shikiri", which literally means "dividing (creating) space with colors". Using colors as her signature, her works extend to a number of projects, including architectural design for Sugamo Shinkin Bank, art installations for UNIQLO and ISSEY MIYAKE, "100 colors" art installation series, and "Forest of Numbers" at The National Art Center, Tokyo.
